ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Rob Helfrich

Rob Helfrich is Director of Business Development at Welch Allyn, Inc., a market leading medical device company headquartered in Central New York. Welch Allyn, with over $500 million in revenue, has consistently grown at a double-digit rate through both internal product development as well as acquisitions. Half of the company’s current revenue has been derived from acquisitions and alliances completed within the last ten years.

Mr. Helfrich’s corporate business development experience spans over 15 years. Mr. Helfrich joined Welch Allyn in 2001 and has proactively managed all aspects of Welch Allyn’s corporate business development from strategy development to target identification, valuation, negotiation, due diligence and deal closing. Most recently, Mr. Helfrich completed the Company’s first acquisition in Asia. Mr. Helfrich has also successfully completed a variety of license, supply and distribution deals in support of Welch Allyn’s Advanced Technology, Core Products, Cardiopulmonary and Patient Monitoring business units.

Prior to joining Welch Allyn, Helfrich was Manager of Business Development for Carrier Corporation’s North American Operations in Syracuse, NY. While at Carrier, he successfully identified, analyzed, evaluated, negotiated and closed financially accretive middle market transactions which totaled over $100 million of acquired revenue. Mr. Helfrich started his business development career at Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon division in 1991 and later transferred to Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon Endo-Surgery unit in Cincinnati, OH.

Welch Allyn, Inc. was founded in 1915 and is today a leading manufacturer of innovative medical diagnostic and therapeutic devices, cardiac defibrillators, patient monitoring systems, and miniature precision lamps. Headquartered in Skaneateles Falls, New York, USA, Welch Allyn employs more than 2,300 people and has numerous manufacturing, sales, and distribution facilities located throughout the world.


Richard W. Mott

Richard W. Mott has served as President, Chief Executive Officer and director of Kyphon, Inc, since September 2002. From August 1993 through March 2002, Richard held several positions at Wilson Greatbatch Technologies, Inc., a developer of components for implantable medical devices, including Chief Operating Officer from December 2000 to March 2002, Group Vice President from 1997 through 2000, Vice President and General Manager, Greatbatch Scientific Division from 1996 through 1997 and Vice President, General Manager, Battery Division from 1993 through 1996. Mr. Mott holds a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.

Kyphon, Inc. develops and markets medical devices designed to restore and preserve spinal function and diagnose low back pain using minimally invasive technologies. The company's products are used in balloon kyphoplasty for the treatment of spinal fractures caused by osteoporosis or cancer, in the Functional Anaesthetic Discography™ procedure for diagnosing the source of low back pain, and in the Interspinous Process Decompression procedure for treating lumbar spinal stenosis.


Anton P. Teodorescu

Anton Teodorescu received his BA Degree in Engineering and Applied Science from Harvard University, a Master’s Diploma in Computer Science from Cambridge University, UK, and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Mr. Teodorescu is now a Partner in IBM’s Venture Capital Group. He began his career at IBM in 1985 as part of the Marketing team. He then joined the newly forming IBM Global Services first as a Consultant, then as a Principal, leading design, implementation and support engagements for large clients in the Banking, Insurance, Healthcare and Education industries.

Mr. Teodorescu joined IBM’s Venture Capital Group in 2001, and currently works closely with the Venture Capital community in New England, as well as the portfolio companies in which they invest. He helps facilitate linkages between start-up companies with promising solutions or technologies with the different parts of IBM that could best leverage them for the mutual benefit of their customers.
